FARM MATE
Challenge
In response to the severe labour shortage in the agriculture sector, farmers and labour hire
companies are bringing workers into Australia from overseas to meet the demand. This has created
additional challenges as many of the workers are culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) with
low English-speaking ability. Supporting Seasonal Workers to adjust to life in Australia, keep them
safe and resolve worker issues is an on-going challenge.
Solution
In collaboration with labour hire company, The Job Shop (TJS) and Oxil used the Pulse app stream to
create Farm Mate. A personalised mobile app to engage, inform, communicate, and survey hundreds of
seasonal workers in the agriculture industry.
Outcome
TJS are using the Farm Mate app to consistently communicate to 400+ seasonal workers, successfully
delivering over 60 health and safety campaigns. The campaigns are generating valuable insights into
worker engagement levels, worker needs and a broad range of physical and mental health data
generated from the app.
